Charitable Giving
Unfolding Potential Fund
The mission of the Unfolding Potential Fund (UPF) is to create opportunities to assist clients through grant and emergency relief requests. In addition, the Fund provides Origami the means to expand community awareness and prevention of Traumatic Brain Injury. Your donation will be used to enhance the lives of the survivors served at Origami in situations where they need additional support. This may come in a form of either a grant request for education, certification, job development, transportation, or personal development; or through emergency requests to address time-sensitive needs such as food, clothing, shelter, utilities, household, or medical. Please contact Jennifer Pascoe at 517-455-0264.
Gifts can be made to the Unfolding Potential Fund (UPF) in the form of:
Bequests
Bequests, which are gifts made through a will, help provide long-term support for charitable organizations. Bequests are popular because they require no immediate out-of-pocket cost, reduction in net worth, or disruption of cash flow. Examples of bequests include an outright bequest, with a specific sum of money or percentage of your estate being donated; or deferred, with the SSF receiving the benefits at a later date. Bequests have tax benefits. Every dollar given to a qualified charitable organization such as Origami is fully deductible for federal estate tax purposes when certain legal requirements are met.
Gift Annuities
Gift annuities have grown in popularity in recent years. With a gift annuity, the donor transfers cash or property to the charity in exchange for a partial tax deduction and a lifetime stream of annual income from the charity. Gift annuities provide an immediate supplement to a donor’s retirement savings along with generating an immediate charitable tax deduction. The full gift is tax deductible up to the annual limits specified by the IRS.
Major Gifts
This includes gifts of $5,000 or larger. Such gifts would include:
- Cash
- Stock or other securities
- Real estate
- Personal property (books, artwork, or equipment)
Gifts
Items such as stock and real estate allow the donor to avoid paying capital gains taxes as you would had it been sold.
Donations
Origami will also accept cash donations of any amount. If you are not equipped or ready to make a large gift, this method may be best to meet your needs and know that you are helping brain injury survivors achieve their rehab goals. For cash donations, please make checks payable to Origami and mail to:
