Margaret Fankhauser
, D.O.
Medical Director

Team Member Since 2000

I am Dr. Margaret Fankhauser, D.O. I specialize in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Michigan State University. As the Medical Director of Origami, I help coordinate the treatment team and make certain that clients receive an individualized program that is best for their specific problems. The Origami team works well together, providing an atmosphere where people with brain injury can recover and utilize the skills they are working on in a safe environment, and then practice in the community with therapist assistance. Often the problems after brain injury are subtle and only noticed by those who have more than a casual conversation with the person. Because this type of injury affects interactions with all significant friends and family members, it helps to have them involved in treatment as a critical part of the treatment team.

Hi! My name is Jennifer and I obtained my Nursing and Psychology degrees at a college near Buffalo, NY.  I've been a Registered Nurse since 1994 and I have worked almost exclusively with individuals of mental health services and the intellectually disabled as I have never lost fascination in various medical complications that these entail.  I have worked with kids as young as four and adults as old as 103 in residential, day, outpatient, and inpatient programs.  I enjoy holistic nursing and try to incorporate various methods into my practice, including massage, music, and aromatherapy when appropriate.  During my off time, I love to cook, travel, garden, watch football, and fish.  My life partner showed me how to tie flies for fly fishing and I've been "hooked" on him and this new sport ever since!  I caught the largest small mouth bass in a Michigan river in 2007!  I can be found at home watching "CSI" in the evenings with my four cats, one dog, and two girls.
