Origami Brain Injury Rehabilitation Center is the clinical site for a 2 year Michigan State University research study. Funding for the $150,000 study was received through a grant by the American Osteopathic Association and AT Still Foundation. The Effect of Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) on Functional Outcomes and Anti-inflammatory Biomarkers in Mild- to Moderate Traumatic Brain Injury is led by primary investigator and Origami Medical Director, Rebecca Wyatt, DO.
Data collection will begin in September 2017 with plans for it to include 200 cases. Wyatt stated, “The impact of our proposed research lies in our attempt to establish a foundation for the basis of using OMT procedures to accelerate recovery of patients following mild to moderate brain injury and to find correlations between cognitive functions, biochemical markers, and self-reported assessments of quality of life.”
