Origami Rehabilitation Named Michigan’s First CARF-Accredited Concussion Rehabilitation for Children and Adults
Origami Rehabilitation’s Concussion Rehabilitation for children and adults has been officially named the first CARF-accredited concussion rehabilitation in the State of Michigan and the fifth in the United States, following a recent survey by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
CARF is an independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services. Its rigorous accreditation process applies internationally recognized standards through an in-depth, on-site survey conducted by peer reviewers. Achieving CARF accreditation demonstrates an organization’s commitment to continuous improvement, quality outcomes, and accountability to the individuals and communities it serves.
This recognition underscores Origami’s dedication to the highest standards of care, safety, and outcomes in concussion rehabilitation. For Michigan residents, it means access to world-class, accredited concussion care, right here at home.
What to Know About Concussions
Concussions are brain injuries that require expert evaluation and treatment. Origami takes a comprehensive, one-on-one approach to recovery, helping athletes, students, and adults safely return to school, work, and play. Even mild concussions can lead to long-term effects if not properly treated.
While often linked to contact sports, concussions can also occur from motor vehicle accidents, falls, non-contact sports, and other activities.
Symptoms may include:
- Emotional or behavioral changes
- Cognitive difficulties such as confusion or memory issues
- Speech, balance, visual, or coordination challenges
If you suspect a concussion:
- Stop activity immediately.
- Seek professional evaluation from a doctor or sports medicine specialist.
- Follow provider guidance on symptom management.
- Contact Origami if symptoms persist for more than a week to develop a personalized recovery plan.
Early, specialized care is essential to promote healing and prevent prolonged symptoms.

Origami Earns three-year CARF Accreditation for outstanding programs and services
This achievement is part of even bigger news: Origami also earned a three-year CARF accreditation, the highest level, for its residential and outpatient programs.
Origami has been CARF-accredited since 1997, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to exceptional rehabilitative care. The organization has seen tremendous growth, doubling its locations from two to four in 2025. Despite this expansion, Origami received only one recommendation across all programs and services, a remarkable result that highlights its excellence.
Surveyors commended Origami for its innovative leadership, collaborative culture, broad range of specialty services, and substantial community impact.
“Since the very beginning, Origami has always had a deep commitment to providing the highest-quality rehabilitation services, right here in Mid-Michigan,” said Tammy Hannah, President & CEO of Origami Rehabilitation. “Residents don’t need to travel out of state or far away to receive expert concussion care, treatment for a stroke, or other neurological, developmental, orthopedic, or mental health conditions. These survey results are a testament to our team’s passion, expertise, and dedication to transforming lives.”
Surveyor Highlights
CARF surveyors noted several unique strengths, including:
- “Having a full-time psychiatrist, particularly one specializing in neurological disorders, is truly a unique strength of the program, as there are few outpatient/residential rehabilitation programs with this resource available.”
- “Origami Rehabilitation has a comprehensive driver training system with a variety of vehicles and adaptations to meet the needs of the persons served. The organization is the first to offer a driving program for adolescents in the state of Michigan.”
